L’OR’s small-sleeve decaf at premium pricing
L’OR Decaféiné is JDE Peet’s decaf option for Nespresso OriginalLine machines, sold on Amazon UK as a 10-capsule sleeve at £6.79. That works out to 67.9p per cup. The pricing puts it firmly above the budget compatible-decaf tier and into the brand-premium space.
The slug on our site keeps the original “lor-decafeine-forza” path from when this listing referenced a larger Forza-branded bulk pack at much lower per-cup pricing. The current Amazon UK listing is the smaller-sleeve variant under the simpler “L’OR Decaféiné” name. The slug is preserved for URL continuity; the product details reflect the current Amazon listing.
How it tastes
Pulled at the 40ml espresso setting on a Nespresso Pixie, L’OR Decaféiné produces a medium crema and a clean, slightly bitter shot with notes of dark cocoa. Compared to caffeinated L’OR Espresso Ristretto, this decaf version is softer and less aggressive on the palate.
The decaffeination method is CO2 extraction, which preserves aromatic compounds well and avoids the slight flatness that older solvent-based decaf methods produced. Caffeine content is published at under 0.1%, around 3-4mg per cup.
The 10-pack premium
The reason this entry sits high in our decaf cornerstone despite being a JDE Peet’s brand is the pack format. Where L’OR’s caffeinated pods come in 40-50 pod boxes at much lower per-cup pricing, the decaf version is currently listed in a 10-pod sleeve format. The smaller pack format pushes the per-cup cost above 67p, where the comparable bulk-pack alternative (if it returns) would be in the 14-25p range.
For decaf drinkers committed to the L’OR brand and willing to pay the smaller-sleeve premium, this is the right buy. For decaf drinkers prioritising per-cup cost, Lavazza Dek Espresso at 26.3p per cup is the better-value alternative in the same machine system.
In milk drinks
L’OR Decaféiné is competent in milk drinks. The medium-body roast carries through small flat whites adequately, though it fades in larger latte volumes. For households wanting a decaf base for daily milk-drink consumption, Lavazza Dek Espresso (with its heavier 10% Robusta content) is the better milk-drink pod.
For straight black espresso, L’OR Decaféiné is fine but not specifically distinctive. Most drinkers won’t taste a meaningful difference between this and Nespresso Decaffeinato Apreggio in blind testing.
Bottom line
Buy L’OR Decaféiné if you specifically want the L’OR brand at home in small sleeve format and the 67.9p per cup is acceptable for the convenience. The Amazon UK listing format is unusual for L’OR (most of their range comes in bigger packs), and the per-cup cost reflects that.
For better value within the OriginalLine decaf market, look at Lavazza Dek Espresso 10-pack at 26.3p per cup. For Nespresso own consistency, Decaffeinato Apreggio at 46.1p per cup in a 50-pack format gives you better per-cup economics with the Swiss Water Process advantage.
