The best Nespresso Vertuo pods on Amazon UK in 2026

Vertuo is expensive. The barcode on every Vertuo pod is patented, which means the compatible-pod market that exists for OriginalLine doesn’t really exist for Vertuo. You’re choosing between Nespresso’s own range and a small handful of Starbucks-branded options. Per-cup prices sit between 55p and over £2, much closer to a café drink than an OriginalLine compatible pod.

This guide ranks the Vertuo pods we’d actually buy on Amazon UK by what you pay per cup at the pod’s intended brew size. Vertuo pods are size-specific. An Espresso pod (40ml) and a Mug pod (230ml) from the same brand carry different prices, and the barcode tells the machine how much water to push through, so you can’t change the cup size after the fact.
Prices come from Amazon UK and are dated below the table. We refresh fortnightly. Nespresso’s own boutique site sometimes runs subscription deals that beat Amazon for specific sleeves, so check both before buying.
1. Nespresso Altissio (Vertuo Espresso 40ml), 100-pack: 55.6p per cup
The cheapest per-cup option in the Vertuo range, achievable only by committing to the 100-pack format. £55.59 for 100 capsules on Amazon UK works out to 55.6p per cup. Smaller 10-pod sleeves of Altissio typically run 60-70p per cup, so the bulk saving is real if you’ll drink through it inside three months.
Altissio is intensity 9, Nespresso’s dark espresso option in the Vertuo system. Pulled at the 40ml Espresso setting, it produces a thick crema and a punchy short shot. The closest Vertuo equivalent to OriginalLine Arpeggio (we cover the price gap in Nespresso Original vs Vertuo) for drinkers who switched from Original and missed a proper espresso.
Nespresso Altissio (Vertuo Espresso 40ml)
Fits: Nespresso Vertuo Strength 9/10
Pros
- Bulk 100-pack saves 10p per cup vs smaller sleeves
- Thicker crema than most OriginalLine espressos
- Works well as a Macchiato base
Cons
- Can't be customised below or above 40ml
- Freshness fades after 3 months in 100-pack form
2. Nespresso Melozio (Vertuo Mug 230ml), 60-pack: 79.5p per cup
The default Vertuo daily-driver mug pod. £47.70 for 60 capsules on Amazon UK, 79.5p per cup. Medium-roast, intensity 6, designed for filter-coffee-style mug drinking rather than espresso.
If you have a Vertuo Pop or Plus and you want a longer, smoother daily cup, Melozio is the right default sleeve. Drinks black or with a small splash of milk. Loses character in larger milk-drink ratios.
Nespresso Melozio (Vertuo Mug 230ml)
Fits: Nespresso Vertuo Strength 6/10
Pros
- The reliable Vertuo daily-driver mug pod
- Medium roast, balanced body
- Works black or with light milk
Cons
- 79.5p per cup, premium pricing
- Dilutes in larger milk drinks
- 60-pack starts losing aroma after 4 months
3. Nespresso Vertuo Decaffeinato Melozio, 30-pack: 81.7p per cup
The Vertuo entry in our best decaf coffee pods roundup, and the decaf option Vertuo households need. £24.50 for 30 capsules, 81.7p per cup. Same medium-roast profile as caffeinated Melozio, decaffeinated via Swiss Water Process to under 0.1% caffeine.
There are no meaningful decaf compatibles in the Vertuo system, so this is essentially the entire Vertuo decaf market. Subscribe and Save brings it to about 71p per cup at the 15% tier.
Nespresso Vertuo Decaffeinato Melozio
Fits: Nespresso Vertuo Strength 6/10
Pros
- The only sensible Vertuo decaf option
- Swiss Water Process decaffeination
- Identical flavour to caffeinated Melozio
Cons
- 81.7p per cup, premium pricing
- No compatible market for Vertuo decaf to drive prices down
- Only 30-pod sleeve, no bulk option
4. Nespresso Vertuo Master Origins Mixed Pack, 30-pack: 92p per cup
The specialty sampler. £27.59 for 30 capsules drawn from Nespresso’s Master Origins single-origin range (Ethiopia, Colombia, Indonesia, India, Nicaragua). 92p per cup.
Good for Vertuo owners who’ve drunk the standard range and want to explore Nespresso’s specialty positioning. The light-roast origins (Ethiopia, Costa Rica) carry genuine fruit notes that survive Vertuo’s centrifugal extraction. Not a daily-driver at this price point, but worth buying once to find a favourite origin you can then reorder in single-origin packs from Nespresso’s boutique site.
Nespresso Vertuo Coffee Pods, 30 Mixed Pack Master Origins
Fits: Nespresso Vertuo Strength 7/10
Pros
- Discover Nespresso's specialty Master Origins range
- Mix of espresso and Gran Lungo formats
- Light roasts (Ethiopia, Costa Rica) genuinely interesting
Cons
- 92p per cup is firmly premium
- Not a long-term reorder
- Single-origin reorders require Nespresso's own boutique site
5. Starbucks Veranda Blend (Vertuo Mug 230ml), 8-pack: £2.49 per cup
Specialty treat-tier pricing. £19.95 for an 8-pod sleeve of Starbucks’s light-roast Veranda Blend, £2.49 per cup. That’s café-counter pricing, in the same range as a small filter coffee from a high-street store.
Veranda Blend tastes recognisably like Starbucks’s named blonde roast: toasted grain, slight citrus brightness, clean finish. Buy it only if you specifically drink Veranda Blend in-store and want that flavour at home as an occasional sleeve. As a daily-driver, the maths don’t work.
Starbucks Veranda Blend (Vertuo Mug 230ml)
Fits: Nespresso Vertuo Strength 4/10
Pros
- Authentic Starbucks Veranda Blend light-roast flavour
- Clean and not bitter, distinct from the dark Vertuo options
- Good for filter-coffee-style drinkers
Cons
- £2.49 per cup, treat-tier pricing only
- 8-pod sleeve isn't economic for daily use
- No Subscribe and Save discount
How we ranked these pods
Vertuo’s pricing range is much narrower than OriginalLine’s, roughly 55p to £2.50 per cup compared to 21p to 86p on OriginalLine. We rank by cost per cup at the pod’s intended brew size, which is what the barcode forces the machine to pour. We don’t include limited-edition or seasonal pods in this guide because the inventory turns over too quickly.
We don’t take payment from any of these brands. Links go to Amazon UK and we earn a small commission when you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. That commission doesn’t influence rank.
Prices update at least monthly. Last checked appears below the comparison table.
Frequently asked questions
Why is Vertuo so much more expensive than OriginalLine?
Two reasons. First, Nespresso patented the Vertuo barcode system in the early 2010s, which is why the compatible Nespresso pods market barely exists for Vertuo. The competition that drove OriginalLine prices down doesn’t exist for Vertuo. Second, Vertuo pods physically contain more coffee than OriginalLine pods (about 8g vs 5.5g for espresso pods, more for mug pods), so the per-pod cost is genuinely higher for Nespresso to produce.
Can I use OriginalLine pods in a Vertuo machine?
No. The two systems are physically and electronically incompatible. OriginalLine pods are small bullets, Vertuo pods are large discs. The Vertuo machine reads the barcode on the rim of the pod before brewing, and won’t run without one. If you put an OriginalLine pod in a Vertuo machine, the chamber won’t close.
What are the size differences in Vertuo pods?
Vertuo pods come in five sizes: Espresso (40ml), Double Espresso (80ml), Gran Lungo (150ml), Mug (230ml), and Alto (414ml). Each size has its own range of roasts. The pod’s barcode tells the machine which size to pour, so you can’t change the cup size after the fact. Newer Vertuo Pop machines only support the smaller sizes (Espresso, Double Espresso, Mug); older Vertuo Plus and Next models support the full range.
Can I recycle Vertuo pods?
Yes. Vertuo pods are aluminium, the same as Original pods, and go through the Podback scheme. Free collection bags are available from Royal Mail Post Offices, or you can drop pods at participating local recycling points. Coffee grounds get composted, aluminium gets melted and reused.
Where do you get your prices from?
Every price in this guide is the Amazon UK list price on the date below the comparison table. We don’t include Lightning Deals or Subscribe and Save discounts in the headline number (we mention them separately). Prices update at least monthly, more often during peak shopping periods.
